In consultation with First Nations communities across Australia, Positive Partnerships delivers Yarning and Sharing about autism workshops for parents and carers, school staff and community members working together to support school aged autistic children.
Workshop overview
What to expect at a YASA workshop:
- A workshop that has been culturally guided by First Nations people in your community.
- Culturally safe workshop guidelines to set up a respectful space.
- First Nations facilitators delivering content developed in consultation with our First Nations Reference Group that is neuroaffirming.
- Culturally appropriate resources to support our young people's strengths and needs.
- Local community connection where we employ a First Nations Community Contact to support the workshop.
- Opportunity to sit with community, yarn and share your experiences and journey.
- Strengthen community awareness and understanding.
- Be introduced to culturally appropriate tools that can support our young ones at school, home and in community.
- Walk away with stronger, practical ideas and approaches to working in partnerships between home and school.
- A community network of like minded people
- Create a greater understanding of our young autistic people.
At the YASA workshops, experienced facilitators will support parents, carers, community members and professionals in a culturally safe environment. We can make adjustments to support any specific needs and provide families and staff with practical tools and resources to use in partnerships.
These tools and resources may assist with school meetings, therapy sessions and NDIS planning.
