Australian Professional Standards for teachers
The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers identify the knowledge, practice and professional engagement of teachers as the key elements of quality teaching needed for maximum impact on student learning. The Standards provide a national framework which guides and supports teachers through their career development.
The seven interconnected Standards are:
Professional Knowledge
- Know students and how they learn
- Know the content and how to teach it
Professional Practice
- Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
- Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments
- Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning
Professional Engagement
- Engage in professional learning
- Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
For more information about the Professional Standards please go to the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) website http://www.aitsl.edu.au/ or your state/territory teacher accreditation authority.
